In an age of machine mass-production we believe it is important to recognize the human, as well as the heart and soul behind an artwork, and understand the time and effort they exhaust to present a resolved work. Curated by The Corridor Collective; ‘Hands-on’ reveals the dichotomy of art-making, depicting the blood, sweat, and tears of the creative experience. While typical exhibitions idolise finished artworks, Hands-on departs from the norm, by displaying evidence – through the inclusion of procedural photographs – depicting the making process, unveiling how the work evolves into an extension of the artist, through the emotions infused into the artwork, the flaws only the artist can see, and the problem-solving required to reach a resolved state. This exhibition features an amalgamation of emerging and established artists inside and outside of The University of Southern Queensland, in an effort to draw attention to one aspect of the way creativity manifests.
